CPA, CHFP, Chief Financial Officer
ERISA CPA came highly recommended by another CPA firm when we found ourselves and third party administrator needing help reconciling our plan’s activity in order to meet our Form 5500 deadline. Thankfully, we were not disappointed. Jason and his team jumped right in during the middle of busy season and with their expertise helped correct a prior year Form 5500 and met the current Form 5500 deadline.
Exec. VP, Operations
The first year we engaged ERISA CPA, our recordkeeper was able to brag on things having gone so smoothly and our being able to be ahead of schedule. ERISA CPA is great to work with, very efficient, and cost effective. I’m happy to recommend them to other employers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which types of plans does ERISA CPA audit?
We audit 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, defined benefit, cash balance, money purchase, and profit-sharing plans, plus multiple employer plans (MEPs), pooled employer plans (PEPs), and defined contribution groups.
How does the plan audit process work?
We follow an efficient four-step process that combines experienced staff, dynamic audit software, and secure data collection, all handled remotely to minimize disruption while meeting your Form 5500 deadline.
Is the audit performed remotely?
Yes. Every audit is performed 100% remotely through a secure data-collection process, so we serve employers nationwide with no on-site visits required.
How long does a plan audit take?
Timing depends on plan size and how quickly documents and recordkeeper data are provided. We set a schedule at the start so your audit finishes comfortably ahead of your Form 5500 deadline.
When should I start my plan audit?
As early as possible before your filing deadline, which is the last day of the seventh month after plan year-end, or October 15 with an extension for calendar-year plans. Early engagement helps avoid last-minute delays.
What information do you need to begin?
Typically your plan document, prior-year Form 5500 and audit report, trust and recordkeeper statements, and participant census data. We provide a secure checklist so you know exactly what to gather.
What is an ERISA Section 103(a)(3)(C) audit, and can you perform one?
Yes. This is the current name for a limited-scope audit, elected when a qualified institution certifies certain investment information. We perform both these and full-scope audits.
Will the audit disrupt our day-to-day operations?
No. Our process is designed to work around your team, using automation and secure document sharing so we gather what we need with minimal demands on your staff's time.
What software and tools do you use?
We use industry-leading dynamic audit software along with proprietary tools that streamline data collection and testing, improving both the efficiency and quality of your audit.
How is our plan data kept secure?
We use a secure, encrypted data-collection process for exchanging documents and sensitive participant information, protecting your data throughout the engagement.
Do you handle first-year (initial) plan audits?
Yes. We regularly perform initial audits for plans crossing the 100-participant threshold for the first time and guide new clients through what to expect.
What makes ERISA CPA different from a general CPA firm?
We focus exclusively on employee benefit plan audits rather than offering them as a side service. That specialization means deeper expertise, greater efficiency, and audits done right.
What are your qualifications and certifications?
Our CPAs bring more than 30 years of combined experience, AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center (EBPAQC) membership, and the AICPA Advanced Defined Contribution Benefit Plans Audit certificate.
What do I receive at the end of the audit?
You receive an independent auditor's report on your plan's financial statements, ready to attach to your Form 5500, along with any recommendations we identify during the engagement.
Do you coordinate with our recordkeeper and third-party administrator?
Yes. We work directly with your recordkeeper and TPA to obtain the statements and reports needed, reducing the burden on your internal team.
How do I get a fee quote for my plan audit?
Request a proposal through our site or call (423) 799-0822. We will ask a few questions about your plan and provide a clear quote for the audit.

Please complete the following information request and we will follow up with you soon. Thank you for your request.
